Kiva’s raw manuka honey is one of the highest rated manuka honeys around. In this review of Kiva’s manuka honey, I’ll take a close look at the two grades of manuka honey they offer and whether I think it lives up to the hype.
About Kiva
Kiva is a specialist health food company that focuses on superfoods from around the world. They put a huge effort into ensuring that their manuka honey is:
- Sourced directly from local New Zealand beekeepers
- Harvested using sustainable and eco-friendly practices
- Minimally processed
Is Kiva’s manuka honey UMF certified?
One of the most important things to consider when buying manuka honey is whether it’s UMF certified genuine manuka honey.
You can tick that requirement off the list, as Kiva only sells UMF certified honey (license number #2240).
I explained the ins and outs of the UMF grading system in this post. If you’re not familiar with the UMF certification, the main thing you need to know is that it guarantees the purity and medicinal quality of manuka honey.
Kiva Manuka Honey Grades
Kiva offers a UMF 15+ and UMF 20+ manuka honey, both of which are raw.
The UMF grading system starts at a level of UMF 5+ and can commonly be found up to UMF 20+, so Kiva’s manuka honey is on the higher end of the UMF scale.
Side note: You can find grades higher than UMF 20+ but your options are pretty slim and pretty expensive. Check out Steens UMF 24+ if you’re curious. Just make sure you’re sitting down before you see the price tag.
Pros
- UMF Certified Manuka Honey
- Raw
- Good Value for the Money
Raw Honey
Whether or not a honey is raw is one of the most important things to consider when buying a honey (including manuka honey).
Raw honey has higher levels of beneficial antioxidants and enzymes and has number of health benefits associated with it.
Both Kiva’s UMF 15+ and UMF 20+ are raw honeys, which is great if you’re looking to get the most bang for your buck.
Kiva UMF 20+ Raw Manuka Honey
Kiva’s UMF 20+ honey only comes in a 250 gram (8.8oz) jar, but what it lacks in size options it makes up for in value.
This is actually one of my all time favorite manuka honeys, which is why I rated it the overall best UMF 20+ manuka honey.
It’s consistently one of the best priced UMF 20+ manuka honeys and often around the same price of UMF 15+ honey from other brands (ahem, Comvita).
One downside is that it’s sometimes out of stock, so check and make sure it’s available before get your heart set on it.
Kiva UMF 15+ Raw Manuka Honey
Like their UMF 20+ honey, Kiva’s UMF 15+ manuka honey only comes in one size; 250 grams.
It is however, even more popular than their UMF 20+ grade (probably because of the lower price point).
This is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a high grade manuka honey and not quite ready to spring for a UMF 20+ honey.
In fact, it was my top pick for best manuka honey overall.
If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a big fan of Kiva’s manuka honey!
Wrapping Up
Despite not specializing exclusively in manuka honey, Kiva offers some great quality manuka honey at an affordable price. They even go the extra mile and ensure their honey is raw, putting it a step above other non-raw manuka honey on the market.
